The ironic thing about life insurance is that it doesn’t normally benefit the person who pays for it! In a normal situation the life insurance provides financial assistance for the remaining family members upon the unfortunate death of the policy holder.

The main reason people buy life insurance is to protect their family and their financial well being if they die. The propose of life insurance is to pay out enough money to support the family even if the deceased person was the main or only income earner.

Assuming the person has an appropriate level of life insurance cover then the resulting pay out could cover; mortgage payments, potential accrued medical costs and even living expenses for the remaining family members for many years.

To find out more about life insurance call Campion Insurance and one of our friendly employees will be glad to answer all your questions – 0818 287 101.

Travelling abroad whether it is for a short or long trip can be an extremely stressful time. The last thing you want to think about is getting sick or injured. Unfortunately, sometimes these things happen. If you get sick or are injured whilst away it could have financial consequences for years to come.

There are potentially hundreds of reasons why you might need to purchase travel insurance, from the airline losing your bags to a freak weather event resulting in your flights being cancelled, remember the Icelandic Volcanic ash cloud in 2010?

Here are just 8 of the most common reasons to purchase travel insurance:

Your luggage gets lost by your airline.

Your flights get cancelled.

The airline you flew out on goes out of business before your return flight.

You have an accident whilst on your holiday and require emergency medical treatment.

Your possessions get stolen from your hotel room.

A member of your family gets ill before your trip and you need to cancel it unexpectedly.

There is a terrorist incident in the location you’re planning to visit and you want to cancel the trip as a result.

Travel insurance is surprisingly inexpensive.

Travel costs enough on its own without the potential extra costs of dealing with emergencies and unexpected. Protect yourself for your next trip.

To get your travel insurance simply call Campion Insurance on 0818 287 101 and we will sort everything out for you!

There are a number of steps you can take to reduce your car insurance premium. Here are just a few:

Shop Around. Get quotes from a number of insurance companies to make sure you are getting a competitive quote. If you get your quote from Campion Insurance we will do this automatically for you!

Get Insurance quotes before you buy your car. If you are looking at a number of different cars then call Campion Insurance and we will give you a quote for each car. You can then see if any of the cars are too expensive for you to comfortably insure.

Choosing your level of cover. The minimum level of cover that you are legally required to take out in order to drive on the roads is Third Party. This covers you for causing damage to another person’s vehicle in the event of an accident, while also protecting any passengers involved (including yours). However, your car and possessions are not protected, so it is not ideal if you have an expensive car. Third Party was traditionally seen as the cheapest level of insurance on offer, but nowadays this is not always the case and you may be surprised to find that higher levels of cover can be very similar in price, and bizarrely in some cases actually cheaper, so get a few quotes before making a decision.

Choosing the appropriate job title for you. Your job title will affect your insurance premium. This is because insurance companies categorise your risk based on your profession. For example, if more marketing executives make a claim than marketing managers, you may be better to choose the latter as it could reduce the cost of your policy. While it is important to be honest will all aspects of your application, your job might actually fit into more than one of the categories provided. If this is the case, try out a few and see how much you could save.

Avoid making modifications to your car. In general, the more changes or modifications you make to your car (apart from security modifications e.g. adding a car alarm or immobiliser) the more expensive your Insurance premium will be. Always inform your insurance company (or Campion Insurance if your policy is with us) of any modifications you make to your car as they may invalidate your policy if you don’t tell them and are subsequently involved in an accident.

In the unfortunate event that you are involved in a car accident there are a number of things you should do and shouldn’t do. Here are some useful tips:

Things to DO

Take note of the registration of the other vehicle.

Note the other person’s insurance details. You can get these from the insurance disc which should be displayed on their screen.

Be polite but determined in your dealings with the other driver. In many cases, people can be in shock and may incorrectly give or take information to you.

Report the accident to the Gardai. Depending on the severity of the accident, the Gardai may not attend the scene of the accident. In this case you should go to the nearest Garda Station and report the accident.

Things NOT TO DO

Do not admit liability at the scene of the accident. In some cases your insurance policy could become invalidated if you admit liability at the scene of an accident.

Do not leave the scene of the accident until you and the other driver have exchanged details.

In summary, if you are involved in an accident make sure you get the following details from the other person before leaving the scene.

The full name and address of the other driver.

The full name and address of the owner of the other vehicle if the driver does not own the car

The name and address of the Insurance Company involved and the policy number.

The expiry date of the policy.

When you are looking for Car Insurance you will inevitably encounter a number of terms and acronym’s used by Insurance companies. The following is a list of the most frequently used terms and acronym’s what they mean:

NCB – No Claims Bonus. Typically you get 1 years bonus for every year that you are insured and do not claim against your insurance. This bonus is then applied to your annual premium as a discount for not making any claims!

Excess – A defined amount of money that you will pay your insurance company in the event that you need to make a claim. For example, if you need to make a claim you might need to pay the first €150 (the agreed excess amount) and the Insurance company will then pay all of the rest of the costs.

TP – Third Party. Third party only insurance only covers you for damage or injury to a third party. You have no cover whatsoever for fire, theft or damage to your vehicle. Third party only insurance protects you against any claims made against you should you have an accident. This is the minimum level of cover required by law

TPFT – Third Party Fire & Theft. This type of policy is the same as Third Party but will also cover your car in the event of a fire or if it’s stolen. This type of policy is more expensive than Third Party but cheaper than Fully Comprehensive.

Fully Comprehensive - The highest level of car insurance cover you can get. With fully comprehensive insurance you will be insured even if the accident is your fault (even if no other person was involved). This is the most expensive type of car insurance policy.
